Studies have shown that children who are exposed to theatre benefit immensely. Attending the theatre and participating in the arts can improve reading and writing proficiency, encourage personal creativity, and boost self-confidence and sense of worth.

Youth Ensemble
NCTC's Ensemble for Aspiring Performers
The Youth Ensemble is a yearlong program, offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, serving as a precursor to the apprenticeship. Aspiring performers apply to audition each school year. The Youth Ensemble approach is unique in how we educate the students on practice, technique, and execution, with age-appropriate dialogue and commonsensical exercises & activities.
Members spend one term participating in special workshops and exclusive classes, and may provide hands-on assistance for the On Stage season (depending on season needs). The second term experience is two-fold: first, the thespians will devote their time and talents to creating and performing an original show. Second, senior apprentice artists will be paired with small groups, from the ensemble members, to act as a 'student mentor.' The mentorship is an opportunity to be enlightened and educated, while connecting with artists at their own age. The Youth Ensemble will also make appearances at various NCTC functions.
The Ensemble program runs from September to May. Acceptance is by audition only. Eligible participants must be enrolled in Gr. 6 – 8 and have a basic understanding, as well as previous fundamental training.
