HISTORY & MISSION

Our Mission

The Northeast Children's Theatre Company (NCTC) is committed to introducing and enhancing the experience of theatrical performance for the youth, as well as offer a nurturing artistic environment with age-appropriate and family-friendly productions. For children, NCTC is devoted to encouraging the exploration of creativity and developing a long-lasting passion in the arts. For teens, NCTC is committed to providing educational presentations of high quality and offering the comprehensive training necessary to cultivate pursuit of artistic understanding.

Founded in 2010 by Tyler Paul and Morgan Weitz, the Northeast Children's Theatre Company is a not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to supporting and serving the families of the Northeast region, through educational outreach and professional theatre programming for young audiences.

The Northeast Children's Theatre Company (NCTC) firmly values the impact of the arts and the benefits it can provide to children and teenagers, as well as to families and entire communities.

NCTC is made up of four key components: On Stage, Touring, Education & Outreach, and Conservatory. Although the organization began in Norwalk, Connecticut, and will eventually settle in Stamford, Connecticut, NCTC stays true to its name and mission, expanding the reach of its programming and values beyond Connecticut to Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

At NCTC, an emphasis is placed on the creative development of new and original works for children, teenagers, and families, under the innovative artistic vision of up-and-coming writers and artists; contemporary voices of the Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) genre. TYA, which is commonly referred to as 'children's theatre,' arrived from Europe in the early 1900s to very little fanfare. By the 1940s, however, the art form had become a nationally recognized industry and was greatly respected for its positive impact on the arts. It is now regarded as a tremendously effective and powerful tool for educating children, and is one of the most popular forms of live family-friendly entertainment in America.
